From engineering to corporate financial analysis, thanks to IESEG!
Growing up I’ve always been passionate about science, numbers, and solving complex problems. I was that kid who solved math problems for fun. I did a Bachelors in Engineering. In university, I was the president of the debate club, I still organize virtual debate for youngsters to this day. I worked for couple years in a renewable energy firm in project finance as it was a perfect blend of a field I liked and working with numbers. The role had a huge commercial element to it that I really found myself enjoying compared to purely engineering stuff that I did in college. I felt I had a lot more to offer in client-facing roles, budget planning, liaising with different teams to build project plans, conduct investment studies, and win tenders. I enjoyed the fast-pace environment. I worked with projects within 10M USD where I led a team of 3 project coordinators who worked with me in project financing during the tender stage, construction, and then commissioning. After almost 3 years of this job, I had a strong interest in finance and I felt that my skills can be actualized more in organizations doing larger scale projects and programs. So I did a Masters in Finance in Paris at IESEG. The Masters really gave me a better grip on accounting principles, investment studies, and the reporting and analysis side of the field. I’m now doing an internship in my current role as finance Manager with Alstom transport in Paris, and it has been great so far. At Alstom, I liaise with global teams in North America, Europe, and India and analyze monthly financial performance of their R&D portfolio of 50M Eur. I’m in charge of a few major transformation activities as we are adopting new business tools for reporting and analysis and we are getting the whole team onboard and mobilized with the new tools. I’m developing a lot of momentum at this job in terms of working in analysis and financial management, so I’m ready to push myself further and take on a bigger role after my internship ends.
Masters at IESEG was a key eye-opener to the current finance world.
Very qualified lecturers, demanding courses, lots of teamwork required, and a mandatory internship experience that formulates a well-rounded Masters degree. Great basis for moving on to a job in financial analysis in the corporate world or banking sector. We touched upon quantitative research, financial reporting and analysis principles, equity and firm valuation, and ethics in finance.
Working with many like-minded students with diverse backgrounds.
At IESEG, I had the most diverse academic experience as we had a rich international community with academic and professional backgrounds from all over the world. In many group projects, this was highly symbiotic for us and expanded our mindsets. Even ex-employees of multinationals were able to share their different experiences in their respective places of origin.
Stay true to your ambitions. It takes a lot of work and some luck.
If you are sure about your abilities and interests, make sure you research on what kind of job you want to be doing. And then work backward to see if this Masters will help to facilitate your dream career. If so, then IESEG is the perfect place to do it!
Organized a virtual debate for 200 global students.
I was a debate coordinator for Indian community event where I organized international debates for over 200 children all around the world over zoom. The event took place over 2 days and I coordinated with 15 different judges to consolidate scores, award prizes, and present commentary.
